As an LPN, we expect the following from you:

You're able to administer care.

  • Identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.

  • Monitor patient's vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and weight.

  • Administer basic wound care including cleaning and bandaging injured areas.

  • Manage IVs, injections of medication, and any necessary immunizations.

  • Administer medication as prescribed by a physician.

  • Observe patients for a variety of concerns, such as reactions to medications, potential bed sores, and fluid and food intake and output.

You're able to support patients.

  • Promote a patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patients about condition(s), medication(s), and self‐care skills.

  • Ensure patients and their families understand release instructions, including medication instructions.

You're able to work as a part of a team.

  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information, including but not limited to taking and entering medical history information into computer systems.

  • Supervise CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants), while also communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs of the patients.
